Upholstery Trends: Layering Of Unexpected Combinations Of Textures, Materials And Trims Seen At Marge Carson

APRIL 2015, HIGH POINT, NC - Leather and mohair. Linen and metallic. Braiding, beading and applique effects. These are just a few of the unexpected combinations of textures, materials and trims used by luxury home furnishings brand Marge Carson in this season's upholstery introductions. "Our theme is layering upon layering," said Christine Rendino, director of design. "We are layering textures like wools and linens with leather and velvet, and adding glazes and gold foils. A rich, dimensional effect is created through trims such as braids and beads and applique looks, along with luxurious metallic glazes, gold and silver foils, sequins and shimmery accents."

Avery Sofa

The generously scaled, skirted Avery has flared arms and a curved back, and is trimmed around the arms, front and base with a thin strip of metal beading, keeping with the industrial theme of Cross Channel. A rich layered look of contrasting textures is created with the combination of body fabric and accent pillows. The body fabric is a heavily textured, warm sandy-gold linen called Tribunal Camel. Pillow fabrics include Serenade Chocolate in a soft gold medallion pattern on dark background; Inception Grid, a grid pattern that combines a textured ground with a velvet applique and Sable Champagne, a champagne-colored faux fur.

Pellegrino Sofa

To the delight of those who appreciate symmetrical design, the shelter-back Pellegrino silhouette is a perfect, 180-degree arc. The body fabric is a textured boucle called Visconti Ginger. Pillows include Euphoria Swirl, which features applique-like strips of felt in an intricate swirl pattern, with a gold foil effect over the entire fabric. Another intricate and layered pillow fabric is Matador Braid, a linen with a twisted braid design in white and gold beading accented by bronze sequins. Rounding out the pillow fabrics is Acapulco Gold Dust with the look of gritty gold glitter.

Franklin Sofa

Franklin is a box-tufted sofa with square panel arms accented by gunmetal nailheads and a wood base in the new Bronzed Silver finish. The body cover is an ivory leather with a gray cast called Leather Cement. Textured pillows include: Angelic Snow, an ivory mohair fur; Kasbeth Linen, a natural linen with an ivory Jacobean pattern woven in wool with a hint of silver metallic and Karate Shimmer, a distressed linen with a silver glaze.

Pisces Tete-A-Tete

This sleek modern Tete-A-Tete is characterized by a pair of connected scoop-back chairs, a high gloss painted black Caviar finish and shiny silver nailhead trim. Perfect for a hotel lobby or hallway or bedroom in a home, the body fabric for Pisces is Reservoir Shimmer, an Italian jacquard with a mottled, hammered metallic look in charcoal gray. The accent pillow is a gray silk.
